Illumio is seeking a Member of Technical Staff II to join its Cloud Security engineering team in Sunnyvale. You will develop containerized microservices for a distributed, multi-tenant system that processes real-time network telemetry and security data across hybrid multi-cloud environments. Your work will power Illumio's breach containment platform, which helps organizations identify and contain cyberattacks using the Illumio AI Security Graph.
In this role, you will own critical features and subsystems across the full software development lifecycle—from requirements clarification through deployment and customer usage. You'll design services, defend your architecture to peers, and deliver robust implementations. You will primarily code in Go, work with SQL-based data pipelines, and leverage Kubernetes for service infrastructure. You'll also mentor junior engineers, new graduates, and interns, helping them grow as engineers and become productive team members.
You will own operational aspects of the system, gaining firsthand experience with the challenges of running distributed systems at scale. This hands-on understanding directly informs better, more supportable software design. You'll partner with Product Management to refine requirements that exceed customer expectations and develop deep understanding of fundamental customer problems through stakeholder interaction.
Key responsibilities include owning code quality through early developer testing and functional/integration testing, ensuring robust and resilient products. You'll work with AWS, Azure, or GCP at the API and programming level, with experience in networking and security controls highly valued. The role requires strong Unix/Linux programming environment experience, TCP/IP networking knowledge, and familiarity with containerized services. Infrastructure-as-code tools like CloudFormation, Terraform, and Ansible are nice-to-have skills.
This is a full-time, in-office position requiring 5 on-site days per week at Illumio's Sunnyvale headquarters. The role involves access to export-controlled software and technology, with compliance contingent on applicant eligibility under U.S. export controls.
