Edison Scientific is building AI scientist agents to accelerate scientific research and drug development. This is Edison's first dedicated finance hire—a strategic and operational role that will own the company's entire financial operating system as the business scales from early stage to meaningful revenue.
You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining Edison's financial infrastructure from the ground up. Key responsibilities include owning the general ledger and books, building and maintaining financial models, cash forecasts, and runway projections. You'll report on spend across teams, vendors, and programs to give leadership visibility into capital allocation. You'll manage revenue recognition, invoicing, and collections on complex pharma and biotech contracts. You'll own the finance tech stack (ERP, billing, procurement, expense management) and keep it lean and simple.
Beyond accounting, you'll partner on payroll, benefits, and equity administration; support headcount planning and budgeting with function leads; model major commitments like compute spend and data acquisition; advise on commercial deal structure, pricing, and margin; and prepare board and investor reporting.
This is a generalist role requiring someone comfortable with both strategic financial planning and hands-on execution. You'll need to thrive in ambiguity, context-switch rapidly, and operate at high intensity. Edison is a mission-driven, fast-moving culture of scientists and engineers from leading institutions. The role is in-person, with a strong preference for the San Francisco office (New York also available).
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience in operations, consulting, finance, or similar business-side role
- Strong analytical and financial modeling experience
- Executive-level communication skills
- Comfort working in ambiguity, context-switching, and high-intensity environments
- Active use of AI tools to create leverage: automating tasks, optimizing workflows, directing agents
- Strong interest in AI for science
PREFERRED:
- Experience in high-growth startups or early-stage companies
- Experience in pharma and/or life sciences
