Formlabs is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to join the R&D team and support the mechanical engineering group in bringing professional 3D printers to market. The role sits at the intersection of project management, operations, and engineering support, with responsibility for ensuring the prototyping and development process runs efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as the connective tissue between mechanical engineering, broader engineering teams, and stakeholders to hit key milestones and product development goals
- Manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) in conjunction with the finance team, ensuring accuracy for ordering, cost analysis, and development tracking
- Oversee Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) through the release process with controlled implementation
- Design and develop workspace infrastructure including build areas, tool organization, shelving, and inventory management systems
- Manage prototype and integration build inventory: receive parts, conduct incoming quality control, stock materials, and prepare for builds
- Coordinate smooth, rapid prototype builds through daily standups and work-tracking methods to keep teams unblocked
- Organize work, motivate team members, track progress, manage issues, and communicate with stakeholders
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory and configuration database of the prototype printer fleet, including status, use cases, and rework/retrofit scheduling
- Drive process improvements across mechanical engineering to support efficient product development
- Provide embedded project management support to the mechanical engineering team and manager
The role requires someone who is highly motivated, organized, and willing to get hands-on. You'll jump between data organization and people leadership throughout the day, bridge communication gaps between team leads and individual contributors, and demonstrate a working knowledge of technical documentation.
Bonus skills include depth in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or integration software; data analysis and spreadsheet expertise; and experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems.
