1X is building humanoid robots (NEO) designed to operate safely alongside humans in real-world environments. The company is transitioning from development to production at scale, shipping robots rather than demoing them.
As a Materials Planner, you will own the material planning function for assigned commodity groups, translating the production build schedule into reliable, time-phased supply plans. Your core responsibility is ensuring the right parts arrive at the right time in the right quantity to keep the production line running without interruption.
Key Outcomes:
- Eliminate production line stoppages caused by material shortages on your assigned commodities
- Maintain accurate MRP data (BOMs, lead times, lot sizes, safety stock, on-hand balances) so system recommendations can be trusted
- Keep inventory health within Finance-approved targets as production volume ramps
- Drive improved supplier on-time, in-full delivery through clear forecasts, accurate purchase orders, and timely expedite/de-expedite actions
- Execute engineering changes on schedule with clear phase-in/phase-out plans and minimal scrap
- Provide Manufacturing and leadership with weekly clear-to-build and shortage visibility
Key Competencies:
- MRP fluency and systems thinking: understand how BOMs, lead times, lot sizing, and safety stock interact; spot when the system is wrong
- Proactive problem solver: identify shortages weeks in advance and resolve before they impact production
- Strong analytical skills: build and maintain planning models in Excel/Sheets; let data drive decisions
- Clear, direct communicator: keep suppliers, buyers, manufacturing, and engineering aligned; escalate early with options
- Thrive in change: comfortable planning around evolving designs, new suppliers, and ramping build schedules
- High ownership and attention to detail: treat the material plan as your own; follow every open item to closure
You will work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and a fast-growing global supplier base. When supply chain planning is done well, the production line never stops.
Minimum Requirements:
- 3–5 years of materials planning, production planning, or supply planning experience in a manufacturing environment (hardware, electronics, automotive, aerospace, or similar)
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Hands-on experience running MRP in an ERP system (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, lookups, building planning models)
- Working knowledge of BOM structures, lead-time management, and inventory control fundamentals
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting NPI-to-production ramp at a hardware startup or high-growth company
- Experience planning electromechanical components (motors, actuators, PCBAs, batteries, machined or injection-molded parts)
- APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP)
- Experience with global suppliers, including Asia-based supply chains and long-lead components
- Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Arena, Duro) and engineering change processes
- Exposure to SQL, Python, or BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker) for planning analytics
