Applied Intuition is seeking Mapping Specialists to create and refine high-definition (HD) maps for autonomous vehicles. These maps are 100x more detailed than standard road maps and serve as critical inputs to AV perception, planning, and localization systems.
In this full-time role, you will work with point clouds, aerial imagery, street-level imagery, and other 3D spatial datasets using Applied's cartography web application. You'll perform detailed digitization of road environments, adhering to strict mapping specifications, and contribute directly to improving autonomous vehicle stack performance.
Key responsibilities include creating, editing, and maintaining HD maps to support Level 4 autonomous vehicle operations; digitizing road network geometry, semantic attributes, and infrastructure from lidar point clouds, satellite and aerial imagery, and street-level imagery; applying detailed mapping specifications to ensure accuracy and consistency; contributing to multiple revision cycles based on technical acceptance criteria; triaging and troubleshooting map-related disengagement issues; providing structured feedback to improve tooling and workflows; and collaborating with software engineers using Git, GitHub, Jira, Google Workspace, and Slack.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of experience in map creation and maintenance (ideally in autonomous vehicle mapping, GIS, or 3D game design); a Bachelor's degree or higher; strong understanding of lane-level geometry, routing, and HD map structures used in autonomous driving; experience with point cloud data, 3D visualization, or lidar-based annotation tools; strong attention to detail; comfort with repetitive, accuracy-focused tasks; and self-sufficiency in fast-paced work environments.
Preferred qualifications include familiarity with AV maps and HD mapping pipelines; background in robotics or mapping platforms; experience with ADP, Apollo, Lanelet2, or OpenDRIVE standards; browser-based map editor experience; basic Python or SQL scripting; and familiarity with log-based resimulation and simulation-based validation.
