Equi is an alternatives investment platform bringing institutional-quality strategies to wealth and institutional investors. The company operates multi-strategy funds and custom mandates for independent multi-family offices and advisory firms, with recent momentum from launching major new clients and multiple signed commitments. You will own the finance function for the fund complex and management company, reporting to the CEO. This is a senior leadership seat responsible for all published financial numbers: NAV cycles and reconciliation, fund expenses and annual budgets, treasury and cash management, audit and tax cycles, and corporate financials for the CEO and board. You also own the financial and legal architecture of every new vehicle the firm launches. Key responsibilities include: **Financial Reporting and Close**: Own the NAV cycle across all vehicles, reconcile internal views with provider data, sign off before investor distribution, manage the close calendar and standards, run annual fund expense budgets and allocation policies, and partner with the CEO on corporate financials and board reporting. **Treasury, Audit, Tax and Regulatory**: Manage the firm's cash position across operating and fund accounts in real time with appropriate controls, serve as the auditor counterpart, oversee the tax cycle, and hold regulatory and compliance positions including fund documents and investor agreements. **Fund Launches and Legal**: Own the financial and legal architecture of new vehicles—structure, fees, governing documents, entity formation, registrations, and administrator onboarding—taking point with outside counsel while maintaining the existing complex. **Partnership and Provider Oversight**: Set financial standards and controls jointly with the Head of Fund Operations, hold the administrator, fund-ops team, auditor, tax preparer, counsel, prime brokers and banks to service standards, and renegotiate when needed. **Financial Systems**: Build toward a single financial source of truth, implement documented procedures independent of any individual, and own the tooling that enables the function. The role differs from a traditional controller seat in three ways: the firm outsources books and records by design, so you focus on understanding every number deeply enough to catch errors before they reach investors and deciding the firm's position when sources disagree. You carry real legal ownership, taking point with outside counsel on fund launches and structuring. And the firm is deliberately tech-forward—when work is recurring and manual, you reach for tools rather than absorb the work yourself. Equi operates with a flat, transparent structure where ideas win on merit and every team member is expected to argue positions and change their mind when evidence warrants. The team is roughly ten people, meaning this hire shapes the function rather than inherits it. The finance function here is more demanding than the firm's size suggests due to multi-layered onshore and offshore vehicle structures. **Requirements:** - Deep Fund Accounting and Fund Operations: 8–12 years running or overseeing the financial operation of a fund complex at a fund administrator, hedge fund, multi-strategy fund, private-markets manager, or outsourced fund-CFO practice. Must know the NAV cycle thoroughly and be able to identify errors in draft NAVs. Comfortable with multi-layered structures. - Fund Legal Fluency: Worked closely with fund counsel on launches, structuring and documentation. Can read private placement memoranda, side letters and subscription agreements and understand their commitments. Can run a formation without routing every question to counsel. - AI Fluency: Already use AI as a working tool to draft, reconcile, analyze and build small things that remove recurring work. Must be able to cite specific examples of what you have built with AI in the last six months and what it changed. Visibly excited about AI's potential. - Technical Range Beyond Excel: Experience with scripts, automations, small internal applications, or willingness to pick up new tools quickly. Do not need to be an engineer, but a career of only Excel and ERP will not fit. - Small-Firm Operating Experience: Have worked somewhere lean enough to do the work yourself, not only direct it. Comfortable going as deep as problems require while building the function. - Provider Oversight: Have managed administrators, transfer agents, auditors, tax preparers, outside counsel, prime brokers and banks. Know where hand-offs break. - Controls and Judgment: Precise, close loops, treat investor capital and confidential information with appropriate seriousness. - Ownership: Take problems to finished state without being managed to them. Say plainly when something is wrong. **Preferred qualifications:** - Multi-strategy and multi-vehicle structures, especially layered arrangements where a single allocation splits across several vehicles and must be attributed back cleanly. - Legal background or qualification, or depth built through years of sitting across from fund counsel. - Offshore vehicles and associated audit and filing cycles. - ERISA and plan-asset monitoring. - CPA or equivalent depth.
