Abridge is seeking an experienced Privacy Counsel to lead its privacy team and scale the privacy and data governance program as the company grows. This is a highly visible role at the intersection of artificial intelligence, healthcare, data governance, data protection, and product innovation.
You will serve as a trusted legal advisor to senior leadership and partner closely with Security, Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams. You will provide practical, risk-based guidance, lead critical privacy and data initiatives, and build systems that enable Abridge to innovate responsibly while meeting evolving regulatory and customer expectations.
Key responsibilities include leading Abridge's privacy program and providing product-focused counseling to Security, Product, and Engineering teams; advising on privacy laws related to AI, machine learning, clinical data, and responsible use of sensitive information; building and scaling cross-functional privacy programs aligned with HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, biometric privacy laws, and emerging state privacy legislation; supporting data sharing and ecosystem questions including governance and contractual expectations; managing government and regulator discussions and disclosures; monitoring evolving privacy, cybersecurity, healthcare, and AI regulations; maintaining privacy and security policies; and drafting privacy policies, playbooks, templates, and training materials.
Required qualifications include 15+ years of experience with in-house, health tech, or technology-focused law firm roles; experience leading and evaluating compliance programs; deep knowledge of HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, biometric privacy laws, and U.S. state privacy frameworks; proven track record leading a team; practical, risk-based approach; strong business judgment and ability to work independently; excellent communication skills; strong organizational abilities; and a Juris Doctor degree with active bar membership.
Bonus qualifications include prior healthcare or health tech experience and familiarity with privacy regulations and artificial intelligence trends.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in-office (M/W/F) at either the SF or NY office. Abridge is an AI-powered healthcare platform founded in 2018 that transforms patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real-time with deep EMR integrations.
