Base is a next-generation power company deploying distributed battery networks to transform the electrical grid. The Supplier Industrialization Engineering Manager will lead a team of Supplier Development Engineers while maintaining hands-on technical involvement in supplier optimization and manufacturing process improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing a team of Supplier Industrialization Engineers, balancing direct technical contribution with coaching, prioritization, and team growth
- Ramping supplier production lines from early prototyping through full-scale production, ensuring readiness across equipment, staffing, and processes
- Assessing supplier cultural fit for long-term partnership with Base
- Working directly with suppliers to assess, design, and optimize manufacturing processes to meet production requirements and ensure scalability without quality compromise
- Supporting supplier qualification processes, including facility audits, production process reviews, and quality standard verification
- Participating in design for manufacturability reviews during product design phase, representing supplier perspective
- Mapping supplier manufacturing processes to identify capacity bottlenecks and anticipate future growth needs
- Evaluating "should cost" of supplier manufacturing strategies to inform Base's investment decisions
The Supplier Industrialization team sits at the intersection of manufacturing operations and supply chain, owning the scaling portion of the supply chain and the supplier journey from pilot volumes to full-scale production. This role directly enables Base's mission by ensuring products are built to specification and delivered on time.
Base operates as a startup with rapidly evolving priorities; responsibilities may expand based on business needs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in supplier industrialization, supplier quality, or manufacturing engineering, preferably in consumer electronics, automotive, or industrial sectors
- 2+ years of experience managing or leading engineering teams with a track record of developing technical talent
- Knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes including injection molding, CNC machining, PCB/PCBA, stamping, and assembly techniques
- Experience in manufacturing line design and capital cost evaluation to assess supplier investment strategies
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines both personally and across team
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and suppliers to drive improvements and resolve issues
- Willingness to travel frequently to build effective supplier relationships face-to-face
