As Manager of Vehicle Engineering for the Mira spacecraft product line at Impulse, you will lead the technical strategy, delivery, and continuous improvement of the Mira vehicle platform. You will manage a team of 4 engineers (with growth potential) responsible for all-star execution on mechanical and vehicle-level system engineering.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a team of responsible engineers working on Mira spacecraft mechanical and vehicle-level system engineering
- Serving as the technical expert on Mira spacecraft primary structures, secondary structures, deployable mechanisms, and payload accommodations
- Connecting hardware groups across propulsion, avionics, manufacturing, and integration to deliver successful Mira vehicles on recurring schedules
- Managing scaling from 6 missions per year to 30+ per year
- Interfacing regularly with mission management, mission design, and customers to support current missions, onboard new ones, and conduct feasibility studies
- Training, guiding, and mentoring your team to be efficient, hardware-focused, collaborative, and technically rigorous
- Shaping the long-term product roadmap for Mira with major and minor block upgrades that improve systemic performance, process, and automation
- Maintaining direct technical ownership and individual contributor work across the vehicle
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related field
- Proven track record developing, testing, and flying spacecraft, launch vehicles, or other vehicles with rigorous flightworthy requirements
- Expert-level technical knowledge in primary structures, secondary structures, mechanisms, pressure systems, or other spacecraft-related disciplines
- Strong communication skills both technically and interpersonally to collaborate across departments
- Professional experience managing and growing a small team
