Checkout.com is a global fintech platform powering over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion shoppers. The company operates 20 offices across six continents with London as headquarters, serving major clients including eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony.
You will join the Issuing Operations team and own the technical side of card issuing deals from initial conversation through go-live. In the pre-sale phase, you will be front and center positioning Checkout.com's issuing platform, building custom card program flows, running live demos, and creating POCs. You will win over prospects' engineers, product leads, and payments architects while Account Executives drive the commercial thread. Post-deal, you will work closely with Implementation Engineers to ensure the card program launches successfully.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive technical deal execution in high-velocity commercial environments, positioning the card issuing platform and winning complex, multi-product deals
- Architect card issuing solutions by understanding client requirements (virtual/physical cards, funding approaches, balance management, interchange economics) and mapping them to APIs and operational workflows
- Build and demonstrate solutions through live technical demos, POCs, and customized presentations for developer, operational, and executive audiences
- Provide issuing domain leadership across card issuing, program management, authorization & settlement, network tokenization, 3DS, fraud/risk controls, and card program operations
- Lead all technical client interactions from discovery calls and architecture workshops through operational readiness sessions and go-live
- Support complex procurement by assisting the BID management team on technical, operational, security, and card program design queries in RFP and RFI responses
- Feed real-world feedback from program managers and developers back to Product, Engineering, and Issuing Operations to drive feature enhancements
- Maintain deep expertise on Checkout.com's issuing platform and stay current with card scheme rules, issuing infrastructure, and European payment regulations
- Own the full lifecycle technical relationship from initial discovery through long-term delivery, equally comfortable in pre-sales and post-launch support roles
You will work on a modern, fast-moving platform alongside passionate payments experts across commercial and operations teams. The hybrid model offers three days per week in the London office to support collaboration.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years in a high-velocity, client-facing technical role (Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, Pre-Sales Consultant, Implementation Engineer, or Technical Account Manager) at a PSP, Card Issuer, Processor, Fintech, or Payments company
- Proven track record operating directly in fast-paced commercial environments, managing competing deal priorities, and driving commercial momentum alongside sales and operations teams
- Mandatory UK & EEA issuing experience: hands-on experience designing, launching, or supporting virtual and physical card programs within UK and EEA regulatory and scheme landscapes
- Expert understanding of card program mechanics, BIN ranges, issuer processing, and scheme compliance (Visa/Mastercard)
- Strong grasp of end-to-end payment flows, 3DS, Network Tokenisation, Apple/Google Pay, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), and fraud engine mechanics
- Coding ability and comfort with web technologies; proficiency in at least one front-end language (JavaScript, React) or back-end language (Node.js, Python, Java, .NET, Go)
- Expert in API-based integrations (REST/JSON, Postman, Webhooks); able to build, reproduce, isolate, and explain technical issues using logs, API responses, and test environments
- Exceptional communicator with clear written and verbal English; equally comfortable pitching to CTOs and lead architects as detailing unit economics and operational flows to CFOs and C-level stakeholders
- Commercially minded; comfortable discussing interchange, authorization rates, card program economics, and revenue impact
- Highly organized; thrives under pressure with ability to prioritize shifting workloads in a fast-moving, deal-driven environment
NICE TO HAVE:
- Global issuing experience with exposure to launching card programs in jurisdictions outside UK/EEA (US, APAC, LATAM, MENA)
- Background in software engineering, developer advocacy, or technical product management
- Business fluency in an additional European language
