Valar Atomics is a Series A nuclear energy company focused on making clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable for industrial, hydrogen, and advanced manufacturing applications. The company is building advanced nuclear systems and fuel fabrication capabilities, with a pilot plant planned in Orangeville, Utah. This Manager role oversees all payroll and travel & expense (T&E) operations for a rapidly growing team. You will manage end-to-end payroll processing across multiple states, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with federal, state, and local wage-and-hour laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements. Key responsibilities include payroll tax filings, W-2 preparation, year-end close activities, and serving as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries. You will also administer the company's T&E program, including policy governance, expense report review and approval workflows, reimbursement processing, and vendor management (e.g., Ramp, Navan). You'll produce regular T&E reporting and analytics to track spend trends and support budget management, and educate employees and managers on policy and best practices. You will partner cross-functionally with HR and Finance to manage compensation changes, benefits deductions, new hires, terminations, and leaves of absence. You'll continuously evaluate and improve payroll and T&E processes, systems, and controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency. You'll also support system implementations, upgrades, and integrations related to payroll and expense platforms, and contribute to special projects as needed. The ideal candidate brings deep functional expertise in payroll and T&E operations, a process-improvement mindset, high attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. You should be comfortable translating compliance and policy requirements into clear guidance for non-specialists and working autonomously with ownership mentality.
