You will lead a small, high-producing team of Loan Officers in a high-volume mortgage sales environment. This is a highly hands-on leadership role where you'll be responsible for setting clear expectations, holding the team accountable, coaching sales performance, and creating an ownership culture. You'll get into the weeds on complex deals—digging into agency and investor guidelines, structuring complex scenarios, coaching agent conversations, and partnering with Operations to overcome obstacles.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead, coach, and develop a small team of Loan Officers, creating structure and support for high-volume success
- Monitor team and individual KPIs and SLAs; identify performance gaps and translate data into coaching and action plans
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in conventional, FHA, VA, investor, and Homeward-specific lending guidelines, becoming a trusted escalation point for complex scenarios
- Coach Loan Officers on sales conversations, objection handling, follow-up strategy, agent communication, and pipeline prioritization
- Develop Loan Officers who build strong agent relationships and become trusted financing partners
- Step into customer and agent escalations when leadership involvement can protect relationships and transactions
- Build a strong Sales and Operations partnership grounded in shared accountability
- Partner with Mortgage leadership and broader Homeward teams on product development
- Facilitate regular team meetings and 1:1s that are actionable, performance-focused, and valuable
- Foster a competitive yet highly collaborative team environment aligned with company values
- Operate comfortably in a lean, fast-moving environment where leaders are resourceful and help build solutions
Requirements:
- 5+ years of residential mortgage experience, including direct experience originating purchase loans
- 2+ years of experience leading, coaching, or managing Loan Officers in a high-production sales environment
- Deep working knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and NonQM guidelines, with demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and apply agency and investor requirements to complex borrower scenarios
- Proven experience leading a team to meet or exceed sales and conversion goals
- Customer- and agent-first mindset with high standards for communication, urgency, and follow-through
- Strong analytical skills and ability to use performance data to identify opportunities and drive action
- Excellent judgment balancing sales urgency, customer advocacy, credit risk, and compliance requirements
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills and ability to build productive relationships with Operations, Underwriting, Secondary, Compliance, Product, and senior leadership
- Comfort operating in an environment where not everything is built and leaders are expected to help create solutions
- Strong ownership, high standards, and bias toward action
- Genuine desire to set your team up for success and make people around you better
- Drive to help build differentiated mortgage solutions that improve the real estate experience
