Garner Health is seeking a Manager of Data Platform Engineering to lead a team building the foundational data infrastructure that powers the company's mission to transform U.S. healthcare. The role is based in the NYC Financial District office with a hybrid schedule (3 days/week on-site: Tuesday–Thursday).
You will manage a team of data engineers responsible for designing, building, and operating the common abstractions, high-throughput pipelines, and scalable infrastructure that support Garner's internal and external applications. This includes owning end-to-end system design, implementation, and operational excellence for complex healthcare data processing at scale.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the Data Platform Engineering team with full ownership of architecture, implementation, and operational excellence
- Providing high-quality technical contributions and architectural guidance, setting standards for data modeling, processing, and system maintainability
- Building and optimizing reusable data abstractions, pipelines, and frameworks for high scalability to support exponential enterprise data growth
- Translating complex business and data requirements into well-scoped, accurately estimated architectural components
- Fostering an AI-native engineering culture, integrating cutting-edge AI tools to enhance development workflows and automate data operations
- Managing stakeholder relationships across Engineering and Product, aligning team priorities with departmental OKRs
- Mentoring and coaching team members, conducting design reviews, and managing root cause analyses to elevate technical rigor
Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience in Big Data and distributed systems, plus 2+ years managing engineering teams. Required expertise includes batch processing frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, EMR), stream processing systems (Kafka, RedPanda), and technologies like Temporal, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, dbt, and Soda. Healthcare data standards experience (HIPAA, EDI) is preferred. The tech stack includes Python, Spark, dbt, Snowflake, Iceberg, Airflow, OpenMetadata, Kubernetes, NATS, AWS, and Terraform.
