Salary: USD 179,520 - 211,200 / annual

Coinbase is seeking a Manager of Derivatives Compliance to serve as second-in-command of the Market Regulation Department for Coinbase's CFTC-registered designated contract market (CDE). This is a leadership role reporting to the Chief Regulatory Officer, with responsibility for ensuring CDE meets its obligations as a highly regulated futures exchange and self-regulatory organization. Key responsibilities include: - Own day-to-day leadership of the Market Regulation Department, providing continuity and decision-making authority in the CRO's absence - Drive CDE's compliance posture across all CFTC regulatory requirements, including Parts 38, 39, and 40 of the Commodity Exchange Act, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions - Lead management of internal and external examinations and audits, coordinating responses and ensuring timely resolution of findings - Partner with trade surveillance personnel to review escalated cases, assess potential rulebook violations, and determine appropriate enforcement actions - Advise CDE personnel and partner teams on DCM Core Principles, CFTC regulations, rulebook requirements, and compliance policies Required qualifications: - 7+ years of compliance and regulatory support experience for CFTC-registered designated contract markets (DCMs) or derivatives clearing organizations (DCOs) - Hands-on experience interpreting and applying CFTC Parts 38, 39, and 40 in DCM/DCO environments with ability to discuss specific regulatory requirements and practical application to exchange operations - Demonstrated experience engaging directly with senior CFTC staff across multiple divisions - Deep knowledge of CFTC Core Principles and ability to analyze and apply them to ensure DCM compliance - Strong grasp of market fundamentals, trading practices, investigative and surveillance techniques to evaluate complex potential violations - Proven ability to synthesize regulatory observations into clear written memoranda, reports, and information requests for stakeholders at all levels - Track record of managing multiple concurrent regulatory workstreams across cross-functional stakeholders while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines - Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency Coinbase is a remote-first company with quarterly in-person working sessions called "surges."
