Adyen is seeking a Machine Learning Scientist I to join the Protect team in Amsterdam, working on real-time fraud prevention systems that process over 100 million transactions daily. You will develop, train, and deploy scalable machine learning models embedded in Adyen's core payment infrastructure, collaborating with experienced ML Scientists, Engineers, and Data Analysts. Key responsibilities include: - Researching, training, and evaluating machine learning models for real-time risk assessment, anomaly detection, behavioral prediction, and fraud prevention - Building and maintaining batch and streaming data pipelines to feed online feature stores and analytical workflows - Supporting continuous model improvement through automated experiments, validation runs, and real-time performance monitoring - Partnering with engineering, product, and analytics teams to translate business requirements into actionable ML tasks - Analyzing large, complex payment datasets to uncover fraud trends and identify ML-driven improvement opportunities - Participating in model evaluation and A/B testing to measure accuracy, efficiency, and business impact You should hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent hands-on experience). Required skills include solid grounding in statistical inference, machine learning fundamentals, and predictive modeling (supervised learning, deep learning, tree-based models like XGBoost/LightGBM). Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential, with familiarity with data science libraries (Pandas, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn) and distributed computing frameworks (PySpark) highly desirable. Strong interest in clean code, software engineering best practices, and MLOps tooling (MLFlow, Airflow, Git) is important. You should possess curiosity, an experimental mindset, and passion for learning, thriving in collaborative environments where you can launch fast and iterate based on feedback. Adyen is an office-first company valuing in-person collaboration; this role is based in Amsterdam with no remote-only option.
