Sundays for Dogs is a founder-led, direct-to-consumer pet food brand making human-grade, air-dried dog food. Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, the company operates with ~50 full-time employees distributed across the U.S., with quarterly in-person gatherings. The business is 100% DTC with a subscription model at its core.
The Supply Chain team is a lean, high-ownership function responsible for Sundays' full fulfillment network—from co-manufacturer production through 3PL warehousing to final delivery. Historically run by a single person, the team is now building out dedicated roles for the first time. The Logistics Manager will own freight, fulfillment, and carrier performance end-to-end, from daily 3PL execution to freight budget accountability. You'll build the reporting, audit, and traceability infrastructure this function needs to scale and become the go-to point of contact for carriers, 3PLs, and Customer Care on all logistics matters. This role reports to the Supply Chain Manager with no direct reports currently, though this may evolve as the team grows. You'll collaborate closely with Customer Care, Food Safety & Quality, and Finance.
Day-to-day responsibilities include: owning 3PL fulfillment performance to ensure shipments consistently meet OTIF and SLA targets; managing domestic freight and carrier relationships, including rate negotiations, to control costs and maintain service levels; auditing freight billing and resolving claims to recover costs from carrier overcharges or service failures; owning the freight & logistics budget and reporting variance to leadership monthly; building and maintaining real-time logistics and carrier performance reporting as the source of truth; maintaining full product traceability from co-manufacturer through delivery in partnership with Food Safety & Quality; and serving as the primary point of contact between Customer Care and the 3PL network for fulfillment and delivery issues.
Success metrics include: within 30 days, complete onboarding across freight and 3PL systems, map the current carrier and 3PL network, and independently audit a sample of freight bills; within 3 months, fully own freight auditing, claims resolution, and budget tracking, launch a live logistics performance dashboard, and document core SOPs; ongoing, maintain OTIF/SLA performance at or above target, track freight spend within budget with proactive variance reporting, and resolve freight claims on a consistent predictable timeline.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in logistics or transportation, ideally within CPG (consumer packaged goods); experience with cross-border OTR freight is a plus
- Proven experience auditing freight invoices and recovering costs from carrier errors
- Direct experience negotiating rates or contract terms with carriers
- Ability to build and maintain performance reporting using tools like Google Sheets, Looker, or similar platforms
- Track record of independently building processes where none previously existed
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort holding external vendors accountable
