You will join a lean, high-impact legal team as Litigation & Employment Counsel, starting with hands-on ownership of individual employment and worker-classification claims. As you build streamlined, scalable processes for that caseload, your scope expands into platform-level litigation, product counseling, and broader business advice.
Key responsibilities include: assessing individual claims and negotiating resolutions with opposing counsel; identifying trends across matters for proactive mitigation; handling litigation and pre-litigation matters in state and federal courts and administrative forums, particularly worker-classification and employment-related claims; advising the Trust and Safety team on investigations; creating and implementing scalable legal processes with automation opportunities; leveraging AI and technology tools to increase efficiency; managing outside counsel relationships; partnering with senior legal team members, People team, and business leaders to evaluate legal risks and provide subject matter expertise; and preparing training for HR and business teams.
You bring 5+ years of legal experience in law firm and/or in-house settings, with a JD and California bar admission in good standing (or equivalent status in another state with willingness to maintain Registered In-House Counsel status). Experience in technology, gig economy, or marketplace industries is strongly preferred. You demonstrate mature judgment, distilling complex legal risks into clear actionable guidance; tolerance for ambiguity and rapid reprioritization in fast-paced environments; team mentality; ability to manage high-volume matters while maintaining quality; and excellent communication skills.
Nice-to-have qualifications include prior in-house counsel experience, workers' compensation and insurance coverage expertise, proficiency with AI-assisted legal tools, and a continuous learning mindset.
