As Litigation & Employment Counsel, you will join a high-performing Litigation and Compliance team, managing all aspects of litigation in state and federal courts while advising the People team on employment matters. You'll drive risk mitigation and help Checkr achieve its business and fairness objectives through cross-functional collaboration.
Key responsibilities include: managing and executing litigation matters including factual investigation, case analysis, and exposure assessment; reviewing pleadings and litigation documents; leading discovery processes and witness preparation; coordinating with outside counsel on litigation strategy; providing compliance counseling to operations teams to reduce litigation risk; advising HR across the employment lifecycle (leaves, accommodations, wage and hour, worker classification, disputes); building cross-functional relationships to identify product and process improvements; and developing expertise in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and related state laws as they apply to Checkr's products.
You bring a JD degree and California bar admission in good standing, plus 5+ years of substantive litigation experience including employment matters. Experience with FCRA, criminal law, or international employment counseling is valued. You're pragmatic and strategic, assessing risk in context of business goals and communicating clearly to stakeholders. You have strong project management skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and an A-player mindset with bias for action. Interest in new technologies and AI is important.
