This Litigation Counsel role is not a siloed in-house position but rather a high-impact opportunity to tackle novel legal challenges across multiple practice areas in a fast-moving environment. You will build internal legal processes and systems, not simply manage a docket of cases.
Key responsibilities include managing litigation workstreams related to independent contractor classification (unemployment insurance claims, marketplace disputes), professional negligence, and data privacy matters. You will partner with outside counsel on high-stakes litigation, draft responsive pleadings and briefs, develop eDiscovery strategy including custodial document collection and review, manage third-party subpoena responses, and provide legal guidance to product and operations teams.
Success in 90 days means taking leadership of at least one high-stakes matter, mastering the company's internal databases for complex data analysis, independently owning the unemployment response and subpoena processes, developing cost-effective eDiscovery plans with outside counsel, and contributing to legal strategy decisions with the Head of Legal.
Required: JD with 5+ years of experience, bias toward action and problem-solving, strong project ownership and communication skills, comfort navigating complexity and ambiguity on a lean team, willingness to dive into unfamiliar legal issues, ability to work autonomously under pressure, and comfort engaging with and interpreting data.
Nice-to-have: arbitration and class action experience, eDiscovery expertise, clerkship or government experience, cross-cultural team experience.
