Anthropic is seeking a Legal Specialist focused on law enforcement and government requests to join its Litigation, Regulatory & Policy team. This is a hands-on role responsible for managing the end-to-end process of responding to law enforcement and government requests for user data, including subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, preservation letters, and emergency disclosure requests from domestic and foreign authorities.
Key responsibilities include owning the intake, validation, and closeout of law enforcement requests; preparing and executing data productions with proper scoping and coordination; handling foreign and cross-border processes such as MLATs and letters rogatory; managing civil third-party subpoenas and preservation demands; and maintaining expertise in where user data resides across Anthropic's product surfaces. The role also involves operating internal data retrieval tooling, running and improving the law enforcement response process, and partnering with Trust and Safety, Security, Privacy, and Engineering teams on sensitive requests.
You will coordinate with outside counsel on objections and challenges, produce recurring reporting on request volume and queue health, support Anthropic's transparency reporting on government requests, and monitor legal developments in government access to user data. The position requires flexibility to support broader litigation and regulatory matters as needed.
Minimum qualifications include experience in legal operations, business/operations management, or paralegal roles in in-house legal departments; direct front-line experience handling law enforcement or government requests for user data; working knowledge of the Stored Communications Act and foreign request mechanics; excellent communication skills; demonstrated discretion with sensitive matters; strong project management abilities; experience owning intake and docketing processes; comfort with legal process tooling (trackers, spreadsheets, forms, automations); and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to process improvement.
Preferred qualifications include 5+ years in legal operations or paralegal roles, 2+ years at high-growth tech companies, experience building or scaling law enforcement response processes, and demonstrated critical and creative thinking in solving complex legal challenges.
