Join Coinbase's Legal Operations team as a Legal Ops Associate focused on Outside Counsel (OC) Management. You'll build and optimize the systems, processes, and workflows that power Coinbase's outside counsel spend and management program. This role sits at the intersection of legal operations, financial management, and technology, driving operational excellence through automation, AI-first workflows, and data-driven decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
• Design and implement automated, AI-first processes for legal e-billing and outside counsel management, leveraging tools like Brightflag to drive efficiency at scale.
• Own the monthly legal accruals process and vendor onboarding workflows, partnering closely with FP&A to ensure accuracy and timeliness in financial close.
• Administer the legal e-billing system (Brightflag), serving as the primary resource for system optimization, troubleshooting, and stakeholder training across the legal department.
• Analyze outside counsel spend data to produce reports, scorecards, and actionable insights that inform program improvements and guide leadership decisions on vendor strategy.
• Drive implementation of OC spend strategy, including benchmarking law firm billing rates and fee structures against industry standards and peer companies.
• Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Sourcing, and Enterprise Account Management to enhance program effectiveness, align on budgets, forecasting, and vendor management.
• Manage law firm onboarding end-to-end, ensuring smooth vendor integration and compliance with Coinbase's legal operations standards.
You'll report to the Sr. Manager, Outside Counsel Spend & Strategy and work in a high-intensity, mission-driven environment where operational excellence directly impacts cost efficiency and legal program effectiveness.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of outside counsel management experience at an in-house legal practice, ideally at a high-growth technology company. Demonstrated expertise in legal accruals, forecasting, and month-end financial processes. Hands-on proficiency with legal e-billing platforms (Brightflag preferred) and advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (formulas, data manipulation, reconciliation, tracker building). Strong project management capabilities for operational initiatives from design through execution. Experience with data tools (SQL, Snowflake, Looker, or similar) for building reports and dashboards. Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency and quality.
