Monzo is seeking a Product Legal Counsel to join its UK Legal team and support the Product Collective in building innovative banking products. The role is positioned at Legal Counsel level and offers the opportunity to work on personal banking, borrowing, and payments products for one of the UK's leading digital banks.
Key responsibilities include triaging product legal queries and escalating complex matters to senior lawyers; partnering with product managers to advise on legal and regulatory requirements for personal and business banking products; developing efficient working practices to enable rapid scaling while maintaining compliance; coordinating with Compliance, Risk, and Control functions across the organization; and providing training to colleagues on regulatory impacts.
You will work directly with senior lawyers, product managers, engineers, designers, and operations professionals. The role involves proactive identification of legal issues, evaluation of risks, and development of effective solutions for complex business activities. You'll also support the Legal team in testing new ways of working, including AI tools, and contribute to global product development by identifying local legal and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate is a qualified lawyer (or soon to qualify) with banking and finance sector experience, particularly in advising on legal and regulatory issues relating to banking products, payments, and financial services regulations. You should be collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working across multiple stakeholder groups in a fast-moving fintech environment.
