Salary: USD 130,000 - 200,000 / annual
Life360 is seeking an experienced intellectual property attorney to join its legal team as the first dedicated IP counsel. The role offers the opportunity to shape IP strategy for Life360's category-leading consumer mobile software applications and hardware devices, including Tile and Pet GPS, which serve approximately 102.4 million monthly active users across more than 180 countries.
You will manage Life360's patent and trademark portfolios, directing outside legal service providers and leading new IP initiatives. Key responsibilities include responding to patent office actions, conducting freedom-to-operate and product clearance analyses, managing trademark prosecution and enforcement efforts, and identifying key jurisdictions for protection. You will advise internal clients and business partners on transactional IP matters related to trademarks, patents, trade secrets, licensing, and portfolio strategy.
The role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements pertaining to the development and licensing of intellectual property. You will provide legal guidance on open source licenses, advise on trademark and patent issues in commercial transactions and product development, and review social media marketing materials for IP and consumer protection compliance. You will also support the corporate development team with IP due diligence and M&A review as needed.
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel for Commercial, Litigation & IP, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Finance, Product, Privacy, Engineering, and Marketing. This is a remote-first position with a US-based salary range of $130k–$200k annually, plus comprehensive benefits and equity. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in IP portfolio management and transactional work, with a business-oriented mindset and ability to work in a collaborative legal environment.
