Applied Intuition is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to support its U.S. and international Defense business vertical. This is a strategic, high-impact role combining internal and external-facing responsibilities within a rapidly growing Series A AI company valued at $15 billion.
You will partner cross-functionally with product, engineering, finance, sales, and marketing teams to provide legal guidance on government and defense contracts. Key responsibilities include reviewing and negotiating prime contracts, subcontracts, strategic partnerships, and supplier agreements—including FAR-based contracts, Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreements, software licensing, and teaming arrangements. You will interpret and explain solicitation and contract requirements applicable to government contractors, with particular focus on cybersecurity and export control compliance.
Additional duties include reviewing vendor and supplier agreements for software, hardware, and services; supporting Defense verticals' international expansion by analyzing foreign government bid and contract requirements; developing scalable legal operations processes and tools; leading compliance activities and internal investigations; drafting company policies; and preparing employee training on government contracts and compliance.
The ideal candidate is a business-minded lawyer focused on execution, comfortable leading important deals, and capable of making thoughtful decisions in ambiguous environments. You must be self-sufficient yet collaborative, willing to roll up your sleeves, and prepared to expand your role within a growing legal team.
Required qualifications: J.D. from an accredited law school with active bar membership; 5+ years' experience with U.S. Government contract types (FFP, T&M, CPFF) and vehicles (FAR-based, OTA, subcontracts, software licenses); in-depth knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), particularly Data Rights and IP protections; experience supporting proposal development; ability to guide the company through export control compliance (EAR, ITAR) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling; U.S. citizenship; and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance. Ability to travel required.
Nice-to-have: law firm, in-house, and/or Department of Defense experience; international defense contract experience, particularly UK or APAC.
