Helsing is an AI-enabled defense technology company protecting democracies, expanding its US operations with mission-driven professionals. This Legal Counsel role owns the export control function and contributes across the broader legal remit within Helsing's US entity. You will be Helsing's subject matter expert on US export controls, trade compliance, and technology transfer. Working closely with engineering, business development, and government affairs teams, you'll ensure the company develops and deploys technology in a legally sound and operationally enabling manner. Key responsibilities include owning Helsing's US export control compliance program with primary focus on ITAR (USML classifications, TAA and MLA licensing, DS-2032 registrations) and EAR (CCL classifications, BIS licensing, deemed export controls). You'll advise on classification of Helsing's AI software and technology under the USML and CCL, navigating the evolving controls landscape around AI, software, and emerging technologies. This is a hands-on role where you'll build frameworks, do the work, and sit at the table when it matters. You'll serve as a critical bridge between Helsing's US entity and European operations, managing cross-border legal complexity inherent to a transatlantic defense technology company. Beyond export control, you'll contribute to the broader legal function—supporting commercial contracting with US Government customers and defense primes, employment matters, and general corporate legal work as the US entity scales.
