As Commercial Counsel, you'll report to the Senior Legal Counsel and own commercial contracts end-to-end with significant independence and breadth. This is a rare in-house role combining deep commercial law expertise with exposure to AI, regulatory, and corporate matters.
Key responsibilities include:
**Commercial Law**: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of B2B contracts (customer MSAs, procurement frameworks, supplier agreements, NDAs, RFPs). Act as a trusted legal partner to the Go-To-Market sales team, joining customer calls to lead negotiations. Conduct legal risk assessments and exercise sound judgment on escalation and resolution.
**Technology & AI**: Advise Product/Tech teams on legal issues from product development and feature launches. Review AI-related contractual provisions (IP ownership, liability, indemnities, ethical use) and stay current on emerging AI regulation, including the EU AI Act. Support IP portfolio management including trademark protection and licensing.
**Operations & Cross-Functional Support**: Own end-to-end legal projects from scoping to delivery with minimal supervision. Establish agile, tech-enabled legal processes using AI tools. Provide hands-on guidance to paralegals and training to business teams on legal and regulatory topics. Partner with Privacy and Compliance teams on data protection requirements.
You'll need 3-5 years post-qualification experience as a solicitor in England & Wales, ideally trained at a leading law firm. At least 1 year in-house experience at a SaaS/technology company is essential. Strong B2B commercial contracts experience, solid GDPR/data privacy knowledge, and comfort with legal tech and generative AI tools are required. Demonstrated project management ability across multiple complex initiatives is critical.
