BlaBlaCar is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join its Legal team and support the company's rapid growth and international expansion across 21 countries. Reporting to the Head of Legal within a team of approximately 10 people, you will serve as a trusted advisor to the marketplace, bus, and train business teams across multiple jurisdictions, with a focus on the company's online travel agency (OTA) operations.
Key responsibilities include providing legal guidance on commercial contracts, e-commerce, consumer protection, and competition law; managing pre-litigation and litigation matters; drafting and negotiating various contract types including commercial agreements and partnerships; collaborating with internal teams and government relations on regulatory responses; and supporting the day-to-day legal needs of an expanding international business. Areas of particular focus include consumer issues, transportation regulation, digital law, and platform regulation.
You will need 6–8 years of experience as a qualified lawyer in an EU country, with demonstrated experience in startups and technology companies (either in-house or private practice). Required expertise includes commercial law, e-commerce, platform regulation, consumer protection, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills are essential, along with a business-oriented, creative, and solution-driven mindset. You should be comfortable managing processes, driving large-scale projects, and working autonomously with initiative. The role demands the ability to work quickly under aggressive deadlines, flexibility to learn new areas of law, and excellent communication skills.
Knowledge of EU and French law is mandatory. Knowledge of additional jurisdictions (Spain, Mexico, Ukraine) is a strong asset. Fluency in English and French is required; additional language proficiency is valued. Experience in the transport industry is a nice-to-have.
The position offers a hybrid arrangement (2–3 days per week in the Paris office), 25+ days annual holiday, 4 additional weeks beyond standard maternity/paternity leave, 50% healthcare coverage, home office equipment support, 50% transportation subsidy, free unlimited carpooling and bus rides, professional development opportunities, an employee stock ownership plan, and regular team events.
