Salary: USD 190,000 - 270,000 / annual
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. The company has five satellites on orbit with a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts. This Legal Counsel role offers wide ownership within a lean legal team supporting multiple business functions during a phase of hypergrowth.
You will drive high-profile cross-functional initiatives involving complex legal and regulatory issues specific to the space technology sector. Key responsibilities include reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts—including supply chain and vendor agreements, purchase orders, subcontracts, service agreements, and capacity purchase agreements. You will also play a key role in managing Astranis's USG contracting compliance obligations and export compliance programs, undertaking special projects and commercial support initiatives.
The ideal candidate exhibits sharp analytical and communication skills, is diligent, proactive, collaborative, and curious. You will partner closely with supply chain and business teams to build and strengthen vendor and business partner relationships.
Required qualifications include a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in at least one U.S. state bar. You must have 5+ years of attorney experience with a mix of regulatory, law firm, and/or in-house work. Direct experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts is essential. You should be fluent in translating legal advice into strategic, actionable guidance for innovative product and business teams, with strong written and oral communication skills and meticulous attention to detail. You must manage projects effectively with minimal supervision, demonstrate issue-spotting and problem-solving abilities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus qualifications include demonstrated experience in aerospace, hardware, or manufacturing industries; knowledge of EAR/ITAR regulations; USG contracting experience; and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required to comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations.
