Slide Insurance seeks a Lead Staff Counsel to lead and mentor a team of Staff Counsel while overseeing complex litigation matters. This role combines hands-on legal expertise with people leadership, requiring the successful candidate to guide litigation strategy, manage case portfolios, and serve as the primary escalation point for high-exposure matters.
Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring a team of attorneys, providing coaching and performance feedback; partnering with Claims leadership to align litigation strategy, case evaluation, and settlement practices; monitoring litigation performance and exposure trends across the team's portfolio; conducting file reviews and providing strategic direction on discovery, mediation, and trial readiness; coordinating with Trial Counsel to ensure matters are appropriately prepared for trial; providing timely legal guidance to Claims and business partners; identifying litigation risks and recommending strategies to support favorable outcomes; and promoting compliance with court requirements, ethical obligations, and company litigation standards.
The ideal candidate brings a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and active Florida Bar membership in good standing. Required experience includes 8+ years of litigation experience with significant insurance litigation background and 5+ years handling Florida first-party property claims. Demonstrated leadership experience of 2+ years with a proven track record of mentoring and developing attorneys is essential. Strong knowledge of Florida insurance law, civil procedure, evidence rules, and professional responsibility standards is required. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation, evaluate risk, negotiate effectively, and guide legal strategy. Trial experience, including jury trial participation, is required; second-chair trial experience is preferred. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills are essential. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications is required.
