SafelyYou is an AI-driven company transforming senior living through intelligent hardware, sensing systems, and remote clinical expertise. Founded in 2015 from UC Berkeley's AI Research Lab, the company addresses critical challenges in senior care including resident falls, ER visits, and staffing concerns.
You will lead product strategy for SafelyYou's next-generation sensing and response hardware, including eCall v2 (a lower-cost in-room response system built to life-safety standards) and Guardian Pro Next Gen (an edge sensing device designed to lower adoption barriers in assisted living). This is a 0→1 hardware role where your decisions shape deployment strategy and market reach, not just device specifications. You will define strategy collaboratively with Engineering and Architecture teams.
Key ownership areas include:
- Hardware roadmap spanning multiple generations, grounded in customer evidence and portfolio priorities
- Stage-gate readiness: ensuring programs meet customer, technical, regulatory, operational, supply-chain, and commercial criteria before advancement
- Customer requirements validation with target customers before major investment
- Business case development before NPI, including target BOM, capital cost, margin, payback, and IRR analysis
- Cross-team requirements translation into hardware and edge-compute specifications, including privacy, appearance, and acceptance barriers
- Sensing modality selection in partnership with AI & Intelligence teams, converging on common platforms to avoid SKU sprawl
- Stage gates from concept through EVT, DVT, PVT, and launch, with life-safety certification (e.g., UL 2560) planned from day one
- Launch and lifecycle management with Operations and Support teams
- Target BOM attainment tracking at each development gate
You will partner with contract manufacturers through NPI and ramp, own both off-the-shelf integrated and custom hardware delivery, and collaborate with Device & Fleet teams on installed base management.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hard requirement: 6+ years of product management experience taking connected hardware (IoT, edge, or smart devices) from concept through NPI to mass production
- Strong business modeling skills (BOM, margin, ROI/IRR)
- Working literacy in hardware architecture (SoCs, edge AI compute, sensors) to make credible tradeoffs with engineers
- Experience partnering with contract manufacturers through NPI and ramp
- Delivery of both off-the-shelf integrated and custom hardware
- Strongly preferred: life-safety or regulated devices experience (UL 2560/1069, medical), non-optical sensing expertise, or senior living and building systems background
