Xero is seeking a Payroll Compliance Analyst to take ownership of regulatory compliance across a complex product area, ensuring solutions effectively address core compliance needs for small business customers. In this strategic role, you will act as a primary advisor to product teams and senior leaders, shaping the regulatory roadmap and guiding how legislative shifts influence long-term vision. You will work closely with large engineering teams as a trusted technical peer, signing off on compliance architecture and balancing nuanced compliance questions with strategic trade-offs. Your work will directly enable Xero to deliver seamless, regulation-ready products that empower small businesses globally. You will join a collaborative network of compliance experts at the intersection of product, engineering, and product risk. The team regularly engages with internal technology leaders and external regulatory or trade bodies to align on industry standards, focusing on proactive risk mitigation, knowledge sharing, and mentoring. Key responsibilities include: - Translating complex regulatory changes into clear, high-level insights and product requirements - Partnering with engineering teams to review and sign off on compliance architecture for upcoming launches - Managing multiple regulatory projects across various time horizons while navigating scope trade-offs - Engaging directly with key external regulatory and trade bodies to represent product compliance interests - Mentoring and upskilling others across the business The role offers flexible remote and hybrid working options, with modern office spaces available for regular team collaboration, planning, and company events. You will have autonomy over your schedule while maintaining connection with your team. REQUIREMENTS: - Professional membership with a recognized accounting, bookkeeping, or payroll association, supported by a relevant qualification - Strong expertise in navigating complex regulatory frameworks (Tax, Accounting, or Reporting) and guiding implementations - Excellent communication skills, particularly in translating technical regulatory details into simple recommendations for technology and product leaders - Methodical approach to analytical research with attention to detail and confident decision-making - Strong self-management skills with ability to prioritize across independent and collaborative work - Passion for upskilling others, sharing knowledge, and mentoring across the business
