Monzo is expanding beyond the UK into European markets and is seeking a Lead Market Researcher to own customer and market research that informs expansion strategy. You will lead research efforts that shape entry decisions for new EU markets, developing repeatable approaches to understand local money behaviors, banking expectations, customer needs, and adoption barriers.
Key responsibilities include: leading discovery research across new EU markets; developing and evolving a market-entry research methodology that balances depth, speed, and confidence; building clear views of local customer needs and trust drivers; identifying and sizing priority customer audiences in partnership with Data, Strategy, and Product teams; assessing how Monzo's proposition fits local market expectations; setting high standards for evidence quality and triangulating across sources; synthesizing complex evidence into clear recommendations with confidence levels; and selecting appropriate research approaches combining hands-on research with AI, specialist expertise, and agency support.
You should have significant experience in customer research or consumer insight with a track record of shaping strategy and business outcomes. Experience tackling ambiguous early-stage problems such as market entry, proposition development, or audience strategy is essential. You'll need strong quantitative research skills including segmentation and audience sizing, plus strong methodological judgment to choose appropriate research approaches. The role requires ability to connect customer insights to product, proposition, brand, marketing, and go-to-market decisions, with excellent synthesis and communication skills to turn complex research into clear narratives. You should be confident influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders and have strong judgment in fast-moving environments.
