Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join the Space Manufacturing team in Costa Mesa. You will own the manufacturing strategy and execution for the electronic, optical, and electrical systems of spacecraft, serving as a technical leader responsible for the entire value chain from design for manufacturability through production ramp.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and document manufacturing processes for PCBAs, box-level electronic assemblies, and integrated units to space-grade workmanship standards (IPC-610/620 Class 3, IPC J-STD-001 Space Addendum, NASA-STD-8739 series)
- Own manufacturing and integration processes for sensor packages including optical trains, star and sun trackers, telescopes, and interferometers with focus on optical alignment and contamination control
- Manage processes for navigation and radar assemblies (GPS, IMU, radar apertures) including alignment, calibration, and RF handling
- Own communications assembly processes across UHF through EHF bands for TT&C, command and control, and high-data-rate links
- Oversee power systems and harnessing including power distribution, cable/harness build, routing, bonding, and grounding
- Serve as principal production technical interface to internal partners and external vendors, driving manufacturability improvements
- Drive Design for Manufacturability into designs before Critical Design Review and use statistical process control to reduce test burden
- Specify and qualify assembly tooling, fixtures, and test equipment; own root cause analysis, PFMEA, process validation, and first article inspection
- Mentor and grow a team of 4-6 engineers as production scales, providing hands-on technical leadership to technicians
- Champion Anduril's Manufacturing Development Process and use Foundry and Teamcenter as systems of record
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering; 8+ years manufacturing engineering in aerospace, space, defense, or high-reliability industries; deep knowledge of IPC and NASA workmanship standards; expert understanding of PCBA and box-level assembly processes; hands-on depth in at least two of: electro-optical/infrared sensor assembly, RF/radar assembly, navigation units, or power distribution/harness manufacture; proven track record scaling products from development to production.
