Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for Propulsion & Energetics to join its Space Manufacturing team in Costa Mesa. This role owns the manufacturing and integration processes for high-consequence propulsion and energetic hardware on advanced aerospace vehicles.
Key responsibilities include:
• Solid Rocket Motor Integration: Receipt, inspection, handling, mating, alignment, and close-out of qualified motors from Anduril's RMS division and external partners.
• Divert and Attitude Control Systems: Installation processes for thruster systems, including mounting, alignment, plumbing, and leak verification for both development and vendor-supplied units.
• Pressurant and Fluid Systems: Build and installation of tanks, lines, fittings, valves, proof and leak testing, and cleanliness control for propulsion-grade systems.
• Ordnance Installation: Management of initiators, pyrotechnic separation systems, and flight termination systems, including safe-and-arm handling, electrical safing, stray voltage and RF hazard controls, and two-person discipline protocols.
• Safety and Compliance: Partner with Explosive Engineering & Operations on hazard classification and manufacturing safety controls, including siting, storage, licensing compliance, and hazardous operating procedures.
• Documentation and Quality: Author and maintain work instructions, travelers, and as-built records; own root cause analysis, PFMEA, process validation, and first article inspection.
• Design for Manufacturability: Drive DFM/DFA into propulsion and ordnance designs before CDR, addressing access, handling provisions, safing points, and installation sequencing.
• Tooling and Equipment: Specify and qualify handling equipment, lift fixtures, and installation tooling for propulsion hardware.
• Cross-functional Leadership: Serve as manufacturing technical interface to internal RMS and external propulsion partners; mentor engineers and technicians; act as owner of Anduril's Manufacturing Development Process using Foundry and Teamcenter.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering. 8+ years manufacturing/integration engineering in aerospace, space, defense, or high-reliability industries, with 4+ years hands-on propulsion, ordnance, or energetic hardware experience. Demonstrated experience under formal explosives/energetics safety programs (DESR 6055.09, ATF 27 CFR). Hands-on experience in at least two of: solid rocket motor handling; liquid/cold-gas thruster installation; pressurant/fluid system build; ordnance integration.
