You will serve as Lead Data Engineer with meaningful ownership across Dave's data platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining engineering work with mentorship and architecture guidance. You'll partner with engineering and business teams to turn evolving needs into durable, scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, operate, and evolve production data pipelines and core platform capabilities
- Build and improve integrations across APIs, files, CDC, event sources, cloud services, and internal systems
- Establish patterns for data modeling, orchestration, testing, data quality, observability, retries, backfills, and recovery
- Improve Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow/Cloud Composer workloads with focus on reliability, scalability, performance, and cost
- Lead technical design reviews and help teams make thoughtful architecture and delivery trade-offs
- Strengthen the engineering organization through mentorship, documentation, standards, and solutions that reduce operational burden
You'll work in a virtual-first environment with flexible hours and the autonomy to shape both systems and engineering practices. The role emphasizes taking responsibility for outcomes, diagnosing production issues, understanding how technical decisions affect reliability and cost, and building systems that hold up over time. You'll make the people around you more effective through mentorship, context-sharing, and creating standards that reduce single-person dependencies.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of software or data engineering experience, including significant ownership of production data systems
- Strong Python and SQL skills with solid software engineering fundamentals (testing, code review, version control, CI/CD)
- Experience with modern cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift)
- Experience with orchestration and transformation frameworks (Airflow/Cloud Composer, dbt, or comparable)
- Strong understanding of data modeling, incremental processing, data quality, observability, and production recovery
- Demonstrated architecture judgment and experience providing technical leadership and mentorship
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, clarify ownership, and communicate technical and business trade-offs
Bonus qualifications:
- Fintech or other high-stakes/regulated data experience
- CDC, streaming, event-driven, or high-volume integration experience
- GCP technologies (Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage)
- Experience with metadata, lineage, semantic layers, governance, privacy, or AI-ready data platforms
