Salary: USD 125,000 - 150,000 / annual
ButterflyMX is seeking a Lead Accountant for GL Accounting to lead month-end close processes and mentor junior accounting staff. The role reports to the Controller and requires deep expertise in US GAAP accounting across revenue recognition, AR, deferred revenue, inventory/COGS, AP, accrued expenses, prepaids, and fixed assets.
Key responsibilities include owning month-end close tasks (journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, P&L variance analyses, financial reporting), reviewing and coaching junior staff work, performing cross-period and actual-vs-forecast analyses, maintaining documentation per US GAAP standards, preparing audit request documents, and collaborating with the Controller and VP of Finance to streamline processes and establish internal controls.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with an active CPA license and a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including both public accounting (audit) and industry accounting. Hands-on expertise in month-end close tasks is essential, along with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment. Experience with accounting systems (Sage Intacct, Ramp, Nominal, Tesorio, Salesforce) is preferred but adaptability is key.
Preferred qualifications include Big 4 public accounting experience, SaaS industry background, people management experience, and familiarity with AI tools for automation. The position is fully remote within the US with up to 10% travel to the NYC office and requires Eastern Standard Time Zone availability.
