OpenAI's IT System Operations Team is seeking an IT Systems Engineer to join the Enterprise Platforms pod. This team ensures employee-facing systems, identity workflows, and enterprise applications operate reliably as the organization scales. You will own the full lifecycle of enterprise platform improvements—from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and ongoing operation. Your focus will be reducing manual administration and building reusable capabilities for user migrations, M&A integrations, and broader enterprise platform work. Key responsibilities include: - Engineer and operate enterprise platforms using Terraform and infrastructure as code. Build reusable modules, manage configuration drift, and use APIs and automation for capabilities outside provider coverage. - Design, build, and maintain integrations across enterprise applications and cloud services (Google Workspace, GCP, Slack, Atlassian, ChatGPT Enterprise). Own data flows, API access, OAuth clients, service accounts, error handling, and operational monitoring. - Build and improve enterprise application integrations and Jira/service-management workflows for IT, Security, and business teams. Translate operational needs into maintainable configurations, routing, approvals, and automation. - Develop ChatGPT Enterprise workspace administration using APIs and infrastructure as code. Provide Customer Zero feedback to product teams based on real operational needs. - Build reusable internal tools, automation, and autonomous workflows across the enterprise application portfolio, including self-service workflows, administrative utilities, and cross-application processes. Use code, APIs, infrastructure as code, and AI/agent workflows with proper testing, error handling, logging, and documentation. - Implement platform controls and identify gaps. Validate access, sharing, integration, and logging behavior; preserve configuration and test evidence; document exception requests. - Validate changes through complete employee workflows. Plan rollouts with monitoring and rollback, establish support ownership, and measure reliability and reduced manual effort. - Participate in on-call rotation and handle escalations to support end users, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate resolution. You should have engineered enterprise platforms at scale, combining hands-on configuration and troubleshooting with application integrations, API-based automation, and tools for employees or IT teams. Strong hands-on Terraform and infrastructure-as-code experience is essential, including reusable modules, state management, resource imports, plan review, and automated validation and deployment. You can troubleshoot across applications, identity, permissions, provisioning, networking, and APIs. You understand GCP fundamentals relevant to enterprise applications (OAuth clients, service accounts, IAM, secrets, audit logging) and can explain tradeoffs to engineering and security specialists. You have independently owned complex systems improvements within a team while supporting operational responsibilities, can prioritize incidents and escalations, communicate clearly, and maintain service continuity. Experience with AI and agents or agentic automations to improve workflows, applications, and processes is valued. Helpful additional experience includes Jira Service Management or Atlassian workflow engineering, automation, and integrations; ChatGPT Enterprise administration or administrative APIs/Terraform providers; operational experience with platforms such as Notion and Linear; and implementing and testing collaboration controls at scale.
