OpenAI's Compute organization is hiring across a broad range of engineering and infrastructure roles to design, build, scale, and operate the compute infrastructure powering frontier AI models. The team works across software, hardware, facilities, operations, and engineering disciplines to deliver reliable, efficient, and scalable compute at unprecedented scale.
You'll work on one of the most critical infrastructure challenges in AI: building the foundation required to train and serve increasingly capable models like GPT-5.6. Depending on your background, you may focus on large-scale distributed systems, ML infrastructure, GPU fleet management, hardware systems, manufacturing, supply chain, data center development, or physical engineering systems (power, cooling, networking).
Key responsibilities include building and scaling global compute infrastructure, solving complex problems across software, hardware, manufacturing, and data center systems, improving reliability and performance of critical infrastructure, partnering with cross-functional teams to bring new compute capacity online, identifying bottlenecks across technical and operational systems, and developing practical solutions. You'll build tools, processes, and systems that improve execution at scale and contribute to the long-term architecture of OpenAI's compute footprint.
The ideal candidate has experience building, scaling, or operating complex technical systems and enjoys working on ambiguous, high-impact problems. You should be comfortable collaborating across disciplines (software, hardware, operations, physical infrastructure), have strong technical judgment with a bias toward execution, and care deeply about reliability, speed, safety, and operational excellence.
Preferred experience includes AI infrastructure, high-performance computing, distributed systems, GPU clusters, cloud-scale platforms, hardware systems, manufacturing, supply chain, data center development, or large capital infrastructure projects. Domain expertise in civil, controls, mechanical, hardware, electrical, thermal, power, networking, or facilities engineering is valuable. Experience bringing new technical platforms, data centers, factories, or large-scale systems from concept to production is a plus.
