xAI is seeking a Human Data Manager to drive the creation and delivery of high-quality training and evaluation datasets for AI model development. In this hands-on role, you will partner with engineering and model teams to understand their data needs, design impactful data projects, and measure the effectiveness of your work. You'll own end-to-end delivery of critical data initiatives that directly support rapid model development and shape model behavior through targeted data strategies.
Key responsibilities include translating engineering requirements into concrete data and evaluation projects, leveraging AI agents and platforms to quantify data impact (yield, eval lift, usage), and maintaining rigorous data integrity with a focus on factual accuracy and quality over quantity. You will research and apply techniques for data collection, annotation, generation, and multi-modal integration, while optimizing annotation workflows using agents and no/low-code approaches. You'll manage project plans including resources and timelines, act as a liaison between engineering teams and human data operations, and contribute to scaling projects and demand forecasting.
The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree (or 4+ years relevant experience) and demonstrated ability to analyze datasets, identify quality issues, and collaborate across functions. Preferred experience includes curating or improving training datasets for large language models, designing annotation workflows that prioritize accuracy, familiarity with multimodal or domain-specific data (science, math, programming), and comfort with SQL, Python, or AI agent tools. Weekend work and occasional travel to other company sites may be required. xAI operates with a flat structure emphasizing hands-on contribution, initiative, and strong communication skills.
