Verse Medical is a Series C healthtech company building modern software infrastructure to coordinate care across providers, payors, and patients. As Head of Security, you will own the company's entire security program and serve as the senior security voice advising leadership on risk posture and strategic tradeoffs. This is a high-ownership, hands-on role where you will personally execute the security roadmap rather than delegate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying gaps against target security posture and building/executing a roadmap to close them
- Running core security operations: risk assessments, access reviews, policy decisions, audits, and incident response
- Partnering with the company's MSP and cross-functional stakeholders (engineering, business) to improve security posture
- Supporting compliance efforts, particularly SOC 2 and HITRUST certifications
- Building a small security team over time, starting hands-on and hiring as workload requires
You will need 8+ years in information security with direct ownership of a security program at a startup or growth-stage company. Required expertise includes operational security mechanics (risk assessments, audits, access reviews, incident response), working knowledge of HIPAA/HITRUST/SOC 2 frameworks, MSP relationship management, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering. You must be comfortable operating independently initially and have strong communication skills to advise leadership, represent posture to auditors and enterprise customers, and provide clear guidance on security policies.
