Salary: USD 280,000 - 340,000 / annual
Notion is seeking an experienced Commercial Counsel to join its in-house legal team supporting enterprise sales and customer success. This senior role focuses on negotiating complex AI SaaS agreements with enterprise customers across the Americas region, providing day-to-day commercial legal support to sales, marketing, channels, and customer success teams.
Key responsibilities include: negotiating and drafting SaaS and AI agreements with emphasis on privacy, security, and AI regulatory compliance; collaborating with the Product Legal team on customer-facing agreements and go-to-market initiatives; developing and maintaining contract templates and playbooks; identifying process improvements for commercial motions; and serving as a trusted advisor to account teams and cross-functional partners.
The role requires deep expertise in enterprise B2B SaaS transactions, privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, e-Privacy Directive), and emerging AI regulations (EU AI Act). You'll need strong negotiation skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to translate complex legal concepts for diverse audiences. The position demands independent judgment, strategic thinking, and pragmatic problem-solving in navigating customer requests and regulatory requirements.
Required qualifications: admission to California or New York State Bar (or Registered In-House Counsel status); 10+ years commercial law experience (law firm or tech company); 2+ years in-house SaaS/AI technology experience; demonstrated expertise in privacy and AI regulations; and strong enterprise transaction experience. The role is based in San Francisco or New York City with anchor office days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Candidates should demonstrate intellectual curiosity about AI and willingness to adopt AI tools to enhance productivity.
