Base Power is a next-generation energy company deploying distributed battery networks to transform the centralized electrical grid into a resilient, abundant system. As Head of Regulatory Policy, you will shape the regulatory landscape across states to advance Base's mission of increasing energy reliability and affordability.
You will develop and lead Base's regulatory strategy across states, building and maintaining relationships with energy commissioners, RTO/ISO principals and staff, state and federal policymakers, and industry groups. Your work will focus on advocating for policies that enable residential batteries to support consumers and the grid. You'll monitor and analyze federal legislative and regulatory developments, providing insights and action plans to address risks and opportunities. You will represent Base in national coalitions, meetings, hearings, and stakeholder forums to promote policies enhancing energy reliability, affordability, and sustainability.
Collaboration is central to this role. You'll work closely with business development, legal, operations, product, and engineering teams to align policy initiatives with business objectives and customer needs. You'll draft policy proposals, briefs, comments, and testimony to influence decision-makers and position Base as a thought leader. The policy team owns the market rule landscape determining how Base operates across ISOs including ERCOT, PJM, and SPP—work that directly shapes the company's economics and compensation structures.
You bring 5+ years of energy sector experience with a strong network in energy and policy circles. You have a track record of influencing policy outcomes in energy, utilities, or technology sectors, with exceptional communication and negotiation skills. You can translate technical concepts into persuasive policy arguments and thrive in ambiguity with an entrepreneurial mindset that prioritizes impact. Base operates at startup pace with in-person collaboration; priorities shift quickly and your role may expand based on business needs.
