As Head of Quantitative Research, you will own the research and modeling that powers Range's portfolio construction, rebalancing, and tax management strategies. Reporting to the CIO, you'll lead a critical function that directly impacts member outcomes across the platform.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and refine Range's core portfolio construction methodology, including asset allocation, security selection, and rebalancing logic
- Build rigorous backtests to validate model changes, balancing tracking error, tax efficiency, and transaction costs
- Lead research on tax-aware strategies such as tax-loss harvesting and direct indexing, translating findings into production rules
- Partner with Engineering to implement research into production code and monitor live portfolio behavior post-launch
- Evaluate new data sources, market data vendors, and modeling approaches to improve member outcomes
- Present research findings and model changes to the CIO and Investment Committee
- Contribute to published market commentary and represent Range at conferences
- Work with Compliance and Legal to ensure strategies meet Advisers Act obligations and fiduciary standards
You'll need 9+ years in quantitative research, portfolio management, or investment strategy, ideally in digital wealth management or asset management. A bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (statistics, mathematics, economics, financial engineering) is required; advanced degrees or CFA progress preferred. Strong portfolio theory knowledge, Python and SQL fluency, and direct experience building tax-aware investment strategies are essential. Experience shipping research into production at FinTech, RIA, or broker-dealer firms is highly valued.
