Notion is seeking a Head of People Operations to lead and build the systems behind a great employee experience at scale. This is a player-coach role combining strategic leadership with hands-on execution.
You will shape strategy across People Operations and Total Rewards, making everyday work simpler, more reliable, and increasingly agent-enabled. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and develop the People Operations team, establishing clear ownership, coaching team members, and setting the roadmap for continuous improvement across service delivery, systems, and automation.
- Design and improve People Operations processes that support Notion's growth, including onboarding, employee changes, leaves, and offboarding. Build reliable lifecycle and support workflows with clear intake, ownership, documentation, service standards, and escalation paths.
- Lead Total Rewards operations by developing scalable operating frameworks across compensation and benefits. Own routine compensation and benefits operations, including cycle readiness, data changes, and payroll handoffs. Partner with specialists on policy, program design, and complex exceptions.
- Prototype, test, and scale AI-enabled workflows thoughtfully, with trusted information, appropriate access, validation, and human review built in. Use agents to improve work while maintaining care and human judgment at the center of sensitive decisions.
- Measure and strengthen operations using service, quality, and adoption data to improve performance and service delivery while maintaining data integrity, controls, and audit readiness.
- Partner across People, Finance, Payroll, Legal, IT, and BizTech to resolve handoffs, align decisions, and drive adoption of new processes and systems.
The role is based in San Francisco with anchor days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for in-person collaboration.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience leading a high-performing People Operations team in a shared services capacity, building scalable processes in a growing organization while remaining effective hands-on.
- Demonstrated success building scalable People programs, infrastructure, and operational processes from the ground up.
- Operational depth in compensation administration and benefits, with sound judgment around accuracy, approvals, and exceptions.
- Strong systems and process-design skills across HRIS, case management, and lifecycle workflows. Workday and global operations experience are a plus.
- Practical experience using AI and automation to improve work, with privacy, quality, and human oversight built into the approach.
- Clear communication, strong judgment, and the ability to lead a team and cross-functional partners through change.
- Intellectual curiosity and excitement about using AI as a real collaborator in work.
