Tern is a venture-backed software company transforming the $127B travel agency industry. The company is building a modern back-office platform for travel advisors—nearly 98% of whom work at small businesses chronically underserved by technology. Tern's platform helps advisors run more efficient, professional, and profitable operations while enabling suppliers to deliver personalized service and advisors to get paid faster.
The core challenge: the market perceives Tern as an incremental upgrade to existing tools, when it is actually a new category. As Head of Marketing, you will own closing that perception gap, making the transformation obvious, and converting that clarity into growth across three audiences: advisors, agencies, and suppliers.
Key responsibilities:
- Own Tern's brand and messaging globally. Develop clear, proof-backed narratives that help advisors, suppliers, and investors understand Tern's category shift in a single sentence.
- Find and amplify advisor success stories. Identify real advisors whose business transformed on Tern and ensure their stories reach the market.
- Build demand engines across content, PR, digital, and events for advisors and agencies. Execute in weekly cycles, not quarterly campaigns.
- Establish Tern's brand in the hotel and supplier ecosystem as that side scales. Get Tern into the channels, stages, and rooms suppliers actually watch.
- Ship in one-week cycles. Test small bets, measure fast, kill what doesn't work.
- Use AI as your default leverage. The first question is always "can AI do this?"
- Build and lead a small, high-performing marketing team supercharged with AI. The focus is impact per head, not headcount.
The role operates in a fast-moving, venture-backed environment with weekly product ships, an AI-first mindset, and a culture that values operational excellence, healthy tension, and moving fast while sweating details.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Full-stack marketing leadership: proven experience leading across PR, digital, content, and events, ideally in a producer-led or B2B industry. Must own both brand and demand generation, not a single lane.
- First-marketing-hire instincts: built a marketing function at a fast-growing startup from a small base. You do the work, not only direct it.
- AI-native execution: run marketing with AI as core leverage. Can point to systems and campaigns shipped that would otherwise have required a much larger team.
- Narrative and category expertise: taken a hard-to-explain product and made the market understand it. Ideally in a new or contested category.
- Team leadership with small-team bias: led teams and motivated by impact per head, not headcount.
BONUS:
- Travel, hospitality, or supplier-side marketing experience.
- Experience marketing to two-sided or producer-led ecosystems (advisors, agents, franchisees, sellers).
- Track record building brand equity through events, awards, and speaking.
