Okta is seeking a Head of Legal Operations & Chief of Staff to serve as a strategic operational leader reporting to the Chief Legal Officer. This dual-mandate role bridges legal practice with corporate functions, driving vendor and budget efficiency, leading legal technology and AI initiatives, and streamlining workflows to scale global legal operations in a high-velocity environment.
As strategic proxy to the CLO, you will serve as a trusted advisor in executive forums and key decision-making bodies, connecting leadership across Legal Department specialties (Commercial, IP, Privacy, Corporate, Compliance) to ensure alignment with business goals. You will also coordinate with chiefs of staff and leadership across all company departments to ensure legal strategy and budgets support corporate objectives.
You will direct and scale enterprise-wide Legal Operations infrastructure, intake models, and workflow automation. This includes overseeing evaluation and rollout of legal technology stacks (CLM, e-Billing, entity management) and incorporating practical AI tools into daily workflows. You will establish legal KPIs and operational dashboards to track team performance, turnaround times, and department ROI.
Financial stewardship is central to the role: you will manage global Legal Department operating budgets and external legal spend in partnership with Finance and the legal leadership team. You will direct outside counsel guidelines, negotiate fees, ensure billing compliance, and explore alternative fee arrangements. You will lead QBRs, annual planning, and resource allocation across the global Legal organization.
The role also drives company and department initiatives and culture through programs, events, and day-to-day practices, creating an environment where employees and business partners feel greater impact and company ownership.
Required: 10+ years in legal operations, chief of staff, or strategic legal/business operations within high-growth tech. Proven success scaling legal operations, implementing CLM/e-Billing and AI-enabled tech, creating and improving legal processes, and managing outside counsel spend. Strong financial and business acumen with departmental budget management and vendor negotiation experience. Bachelor's degree required; JD or MBA strongly preferred. Executive presence, exceptional judgment, and ability to partner effectively with C-suite leadership and influence cross-functional teams.
