Kraken, one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms founded in 2011, is seeking a Head of Finance to lead the financial operations of its Cyprus-based MiFID firm, Payward Europe Digital Solutions (PEDSL). This is a director-level role reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors.
You will be accountable for PEDSL's financial regulatory obligations and will serve as the primary financial leader for the entity. Key responsibilities include:
• Drafting and enhancing financial compliance policies, programs, and procedures to meet regulatory requirements
• Preparing, tracking, and maintaining key financial metrics required by regulators
• Understanding and communicating on PEDSL's financial condition, including revenues, P&L, and balance sheet
• Compiling and submitting financial regulatory reports
• Supporting the preparation of audited annual financial statements
• Overseeing execution and adherence to financial policies and internal controls
• Managing monthly and quarterly financial closings
• Preparing and tracking local entity budgets
• Reporting to the CCO, CEO, and Board on all financial matters
• Overseeing financial project management and system requirements
• Ensuring effectiveness of EEA-specific internal financial controls
• Coordinating with Treasury, Banking & Payments, Compliance, and Regulatory Legal teams
• Supporting new license applications and renewals
• Monitoring compliance with asset segregation regulations
• Partnering with global shared service departments to ensure ongoing financial regulatory compliance
You will work closely with colleagues across functions including finance, tax, treasury, compliance, product, and operations teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 12–15 years of experience in financial analysis, regulatory reporting, or similar roles
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in financial analysis, accounting, or related field
• 3–5 years of experience in fintech or relevant industry
• Strong understanding of financial regulatory requirements and reporting standards
• Expert-level proficiency with financial analysis and reporting tools
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ownership of all financial and treasury reconciliations for PEDSL, particularly client funding reconciliations
• Experience developing robust control environments
• Experience with MiFID II and associated custodial/safeguarding regulatory requirements
• ACA or other relevant certification
• Passion for or growing interest in cryptocurrency adoption; personal crypto experience preferred
NICE TO HAVES:
• Relevant degree in Finance or Accounting
• Experience in cryptocurrency or fintech industry
• Familiarity with MiFID II regulatory requirements and processes
• Prior experience regulating virtual asset services or money service businesses in Cyprus or similar jurisdiction
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Group Finance and other functions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
