Nirvana Insurance is modernizing commercial insurance with an AI-driven platform that delivers risk management solutions to thousands of fleets. The company has raised $270+ million (Series D in December 2025) and is backed by top-tier VCs including Lightspeed, General Catalyst, and Valor. Leadership includes veterans from Samsara, Rubrik, Flexport, and major insurers.
As Head of Finance, you will be the financial owner of Nirvana Insurance Services (NIS), a commercial insurance MGA (Managing General Agent) and the primary engine of written premium growth. Currently, this work is distributed across multiple people as part of their broader roles. You will consolidate ownership of NIS's accounting close, revenue recognition, reinsurance program economics, and business-unit FP&A.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own NIS's monthly, quarterly, and annual FP&A cycle, including budget-vs-actual analysis and variance narratives for the board
- Manage accounting close and ASC 606 revenue recognition for MGA commission income, including treaty-year commission-rate reconciliation
- Approve premium trust account funding and serve as escalation point for fronting-carrier remittance operations
- Reconcile NIS's reinsurance program economics (quota share loss ratios, provisional and contingent commissions by treaty year) and build the source of truth
- Oversee financial aspects of subproducer and agency agreements, resolving remittance and commission questions
- Coordinate audit deliverables with external auditors
- Author NIS's financial narrative and results for board presentations
- Serve as day-to-day financial partner to Fleet, Business Auto, and Non-Fleet business-unit leads
- Build and lead a small team, starting with an accountant and hiring a finance manager
This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where you'll build processes and teams behind one of the company's most economically important functions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8–12 years of hands-on experience across both accounting and finance/FP&A in an operating company
- Detail-oriented and execution-focused with resilience in high-performance settings
- Hands-on operator comfortable digging into details, implementing solutions, and iterating quickly
- Ability to navigate complex entity structures and processes
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills; ability to simplify and articulate complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders
- ASC 606 revenue recognition experience, ideally with commission-based revenue models
- Prior fintech experience preferred; some fluency in insurance or MGA economics is a nice-to-have
- Prior insurance or financial services experience is a nice-to-have, not required
