Salary: USD 215,000 - 260,000 / annual

Substack is seeking a Head of Events to lead the strategy, planning, and execution of its brand events portfolio. This is a director-level role reporting to the Head of Communications & Brand, based in New York or Los Angeles. You will own Substack's entire events function, from flagship brand moments to intimate creator gatherings. Key responsibilities include developing a comprehensive events vision aligned with brand and business goals; leading teams through the full event lifecycle from concept to execution; enabling partnerships and scaling sponsored events; managing the global events budget with clear ROI tracking; building and coaching event producers domestically and internationally; and collaborating across functions with internal teams, agencies, and vendors. The role requires translating brand narratives into compelling in-person experiences that spark cultural conversation and drive measurable impact. You'll work with some of the most interesting voices in media and culture, operating in a fast-moving, high-visibility environment. Required qualifications: 15+ years in experiential event marketing and production, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role overseeing global or multi-faceted events functions. You must demonstrate strategic vision paired with operational rigor, exceptional communication and organizational skills, strong cross-functional partnership abilities, and a deep network of premier agencies and vendors. People leadership experience is essential—you should inspire and develop high-performing teams. Familiarity with Substack and understanding of the evolving tech and media landscape are important. You should thrive in startup environments and be willing to travel globally for on-site execution.
