Octopus Energy is seeking an experienced Head of Energy Trading Regulation to lead the regulatory strategy and compliance function for the company's energy trading operations across UK and European markets. In this role, you will serve as the primary bridge between the Energy Markets team (traders, PPA specialists, risk managers, forecasting and data engineering teams) and the regulatory landscape, translating complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business units.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all wholesale market regulatory obligations are met across Octopus's trading activities, from real-time trading operations through long-term strategic initiatives. Your expertise in energy trading regulation will be critical in helping the business navigate regulatory complexity proactively, identifying opportunities to optimize compliance, and ensuring the company maintains strong relationships with regulators.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing regulatory strategy for energy trading operations
- Providing expert guidance on UK and European energy market regulations
- Working closely with trading, risk, and operations teams to embed regulatory best practices
- Monitoring regulatory changes and assessing impact on business operations
- Representing the company in regulatory discussions and submissions
- Building and leading a regulatory team as the function scales
You will bring deep, hands-on expertise in energy trading regulation, ideally with experience in UK and/or European wholesale energy markets. You should be confident in translating regulatory complexity into business-friendly guidance and have a track record of making regulation work for the organization rather than against it.
